The Bimler Elite Cephalometric Analysis: A Valuable Diagnostic Tool for Skeletal Malocclusions

The Bimler Elite cephalometric analysis studies skeletal pathology relative to each individual patient. The analysis is not based on statistical norms, but rather evaluates each individual patient relative to their own balance of functionally-influenced and genetically-driven bone. (Fig. 1)

The objective of this article is to provide the clinician with the basic diagnostic skills required for understanding and treating anterior-posterior pathology of the maxilla and the mandible. There is obviously a great deal of additional diagnostic information contained within the Bimler Elite analysis that will not be discussed in this article in an effort to avoid confusion.

Dr. Bimler chose to use the term “factor” for the various red lines seen on the tracing. We will limit this discussion to three of the most important factors.
